A deathbed promise fulfilled-Why I Wrote WEEDMONKEY (photos!)

When I was a little girl, my mom wanted to be a writer. She wrote short stories in the vein of her favorite television show, The Twilight Zone, and she did research on areas of historic interest in our hometown.

I would see her typing away on her old typewriter and watch in awe as she created piles and piles of papers, all part of a manuscript, being thrown into a box.

MA AT 17

My beautiful mother Victoria

What she was working on was her life story which she called WEEDMONKEY.

Weedmonkey is a Southern term for the word whore and this ugly word was being used to describe her mother, my grandmother, Maud.

My mother grew up during the Depression and was forced to live in coal mining camps throughout Appalachia. As a child, she was subjected to child molestation, the KKK, murder, homelessness, starvation and ridicule for being the daughter of the town whore.

MA, GERALD, JESSE AND MAUDMy uncle Gerald, my grandfather Jesse, my grandmother Maude and my mother Victoria (Ruby)

She grew up hating her mother who was taken away when she was nine years old and while she was gone, she and her brother were put into foster care, starved and abused.

MA AND UNCLE GERALD PHOTO

When her mother returned, she did not know her husband or her children and my mother could not understand why she had changed.

At 16, my mother made the decision to leave Kentucky and the only life she had ever known after discovering her prostitute mother was having an affair with the young boy my mother loved.

She grew up with hatred, resentment and shame for the woman she called Mom and it was not until her mother’s funeral, did she learn the horrible truth, the reason for her change and the reason why she became the town whore, a weedmonkey.

I knew this book meant a great deal to my mother. I also knew that she was afraid to do anything about it out of fear of being scorned by her family, most of whom were still living.

She put the book away many times only to talk it about again and I grew up feeling that Virgie, the name my mother gave the main character in the book, was my friend even though she was my own mother.

In 2005, my mother said she wanted to work on the book again and asked if I interview her once a day for at least an hour. This way her thoughts could be contained and she would have clear notes to look back on. I agreed and so it began.

Oftentimes, she would stop, cry and say no more. “I can’t do this, it’s too painful.”

1956 Flood at Red Creek

Red Creek, Kentucky after a flood

I gave her the time to reflect but urged her to continue. I stressed the importance of this book being brought to life although I could see the old wounds were still fresh and very raw.

Although a kind, loving and gentle woman, my mother carried a lot of pain in her heart.

DICIE, PETER AND FAMILY

My great grandmother Dicie, a full blooded Cherokee who brought my mother back to life when she was born dead in 1929. She was mother’s mentor. Her husband Peter and their children. My grandfather Jesse is the little one.

In 2006, my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given three months to live. She was 77. We talked often about Weedmonkey in those last few months and I knew how much it meant to her to have it completed. Sadly, it was not meant to be.

As she lay dying, she asked me for a small favor. Would I please finish the book and write it for her. Although I was at a lost for words, I said yes.

She only asked that I do a few things: the book must be called Weedmonkey, the main character must be named Virgie Hopkins, and the cover must say Mama, Mother, Whore.

After her death, it took me a few years to even look at her pages. I was grief stricken beyond words and mourned not only the loss of my mother but also the death of her dream.

I finally decided it was time to do something with the book so I searched for her notes and her interview. However, in the confusion of her death, they had been misplaced.

I went to bed one night and asked for my mother’s heavenly guidance. Where are your notes? Your interview? If you want me to work on this book, I have to know where everything is!

That night I had a dream. I was standing in my mother’s kitchen, opening up the cupboard over her desk and the dream ended.

The next day I went to the cupboard over her desk and was met with two large pills of papers. I took them all out and went through them one by one and there at the very bottom of the pile was Weedmonkey.

MALLIE VICTORIA AND TWO CHILDREN

My great grandmother Mallie Victoria and two of her children. I was given her name Victoria as my middle name. She and her husband were very wealthy and owned Ward’s Emporium in North Carolina.

However, this was not a book in completed form. It was typewritten pages, all with carbon paper, there were multiple versions of chapters, duplicates of the same pages, scribbled handwritten notes, papers that were torn and words scratched out. How in the world was I ever going to make any sense of this mess?

It took several months to sort it all out but I kept thinking how important it was for her to have her story told and I did it.

I got the book published and within a year, it was on the Amazon Bestseller list and went to #1. It ranked me into the Top 100 Authors on Amazon Memoirs and was being sold in local bookstores such as Turn The Page owned by famed romance novelist Nora Roberts. I have even had two book signings there!

MA PHOTO SUBMITTED 1900X2850 - TITLE EVEN HIGHER July 11, 2013

So, you see, this is what this books means to me. I kept my promise to my mother as she lay dying and I hope I have made her proud.

A month later, on July 15th, her brother committed suicide leaving behind two young children who were killed in a car accident on September 18th.

Falling back on her ex-boyfriend she tries to rebuild her life only to find him dead of a drug overdose on October 31st.

On November 4th, Elizabeth Frost came undone …

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

So Lisa, this is your 10th book. What would you like readers to know about it?

Well, it is based on true events but I have written it with a twist.

That sounds intriguing, can you elaborate?

Let’s just say that everything in the book is true … almost.

Your last book WEEDMONKEY is an Amazon bestseller and ranked you into the Top 100 Authors on Amazon. Does this book have a similar theme?

Well, Weedmonkey was based on the life of my mother Victoria and took place during the Depression. Down Came November is based on tragedies that befell me after my mother passed away. Weedmonkey was her story, this is mine.

How long did it take you to write this new book?

It took me just a few months. I actually came up with the title about eight years ago. That’s how I do it. I come up with the title first then write a story around it.

In the book you talk a lot about a dog named Kurgan. Was he really your dog or was he a made up character?

No, Kurgan was the love of my life! He was a pure bred Rottweiler I got when he was just 10 weeks old and I lost him on March 12, 2013 when he was 15 years old.

Wow, that is old for a Rottweiler! Do you have any other pets?

Yes! I lost two dogs last year and two dogs this year. I now have one dog left, a black Rottweiler named Vladimir but his nickname is Vladdy. He will be nine on Christmas day. I have also several cats; Scotty, Midnight, Vinnie, Egypt and Fluffer.

What are you working on now?

Actually I have about 15 books in my mind to get started on and am working on my next one now. I try to stay focused and do one at a time but I have been known to work on two and three at the same time.

How can you do that? That sounds crazy!

It is, but I like to go back and forth to keep it fresh. However lately I have just been working on one at a time.

Do you have another job other than author?

I have been a feature writer and columnist for The Brunswick Citizen newspaper for 15 years. I am also a local artist who created Magic Forest Gypsy Stones which are bohemian and whimsical rock art.

Wow, you have so many talents! What did you want to be when you were a child?

I wrote my first story when I was about eight years old and always dreamed of being a writer. I also wanted to be an actress and a movie star. Then as a teenager I wanted to be a supermodel and marry a rock star! ☺

What advice would you give someone who wants to be an author?

Well, it sounds cliché’ but don’t give up. I’m serious. If you really want to write then write. I have often been discouraged and was just about to hang it up when Weedmonkey took off! Just keep at it, keep writing and keep promoting. Put in the effort and it will pay off.

What is the best advice you could give someone about using social media?

First off, you must engage with other people. Do not and I repeat do not get on sites like Facebook and Twitter and say Hey buy my book!!! People will turn off from you real quick! You must make friendships, build relationships, again engage, retweet them, like their pages and so on. It takes time but like I said before, put in the effort.

How important do you think it is to have an editor?

It is vitally important! Most writers are not editors and most editors are not writers but for some reason they fit together nicely. J I made the mistake of putting out one of my books unedited thinking that it was some sort of masterpiece or something. It got a lot of reviews and most of them were horrible! Bad grammar, poor sentence structure and so on. It made me sick! But at the time I couldn’t afford an editor. It was a catch 22. So when I could afford one, I hired her to edit it for me. Now I would never, ever send out anything without an editor, ever!

What if a new author can’t afford an editor? Like you said you couldn’t at first?

Check around, ask other authors, posts your requests, etc. I found one author who does editing on the side and at very reasonable prices. Also, you can offer trade. Work out something where you will promote her services if you get a discount. Oftentimes editors are willing to work with new clients on fees, esp if the editor is just starting out. Others are not and their prices are fixed. You just have to live and learn.

How would you describe yourself?

I am a Bohemian rocker chick with a goofy sense of humor. I am loyal and honest. I love to bake and cook and I love to spread positive energy to everyone I meet. I also believe in magic!

Who do most people say you remind them of?

Stevie Nicks! I get it all the time and I love it! ♥

Thank you Lisa for taking the time to speak with us today! Where can readers find your new book?

All of my books can be found on Amazon.

Here is the link to DOWN CAME NOVEMBER, thank you! http://ow.ly/E4Bz2

NEW BOOK RELEASE! WEEDMONKEY

I have some very special news to share with you!

When I was a little girl, my Mom wanted to be a writer. She wrote short stories, they were often about local history, and some were actually ghost stories. Her favorite TV show was The Twilight Zone.

She also began writing a book about her childhood growing up during the Depression. She was forced to live in coal mining camps in Appalachia where she was subjected to child molestation, the KKK, murder, homelessness, starvation and ridicule for being the daughter of the town whore.

My whole life, I have heard about this book and would see her at her typewriter with her carbon paper typing away. I would see her jot down notes and go through old photos and I would see her cry at remembering the pain.

For fear of scorn from her family, most of whom were still living, she decided not to write anymore on the book. I knew this troubled her deeply.

In 2005, she decided to put her thoughts into words and we began a series of interviews that lasted for about a year. We hoped this would keep her story intact and she could finish it one day.

Then she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and given three months to live.

On her deathbed in 2006, she asked me to finish writing it for her. I lovingly said yes.

After her death and with her heavenly guidance, I found her notes and her interviews.

The book, WEEDMONKEY, is now out in paperback and on Kindle.

Steve and I own a Harley named Pearl. Yes, he named his bike but he is a guy and you know how they like to name things! 🙂 We belong to a group called The Eagle Riders and we enjoy doing a lot for charity. We are involved in the yearly ride to beneft St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital as well as The Children’s Miracle Network and raise funds for local charites.

Last Saturday we held a Valentine’s Day Dance and raised over $1,500 for the local food bank. We are all about family, community and country and want to do our part to make the world a better place.

So, that being said, on May 26, we are holding a PATRIOT RIDE & BBQ BASH to benefit THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT.

~ROCK STAR WEDNESDAY~

If you know me, you know that I love rock stars! My favorite band of all time is AEROSMITH!!!

I also  love Motley Crue, Godsmack, KISS, Buck Cherry and Ted Nugent.

I enjoy all types of music but am a rocker chick at heart.

Starting in March, I am going to be hosting ROCK STAR WEDNESDAY! Each week I will feature a band or solo artist, any genre, and help to promote them. I already have a few lined up so this should be a lot of fun!!!

Looking for more so contact me and join the party!!! 🙂

~AUTHOR OF THE WEEK~

This Sunday is my weekly AUTHOR OF THE WEEK and I will be hosting author Joyce Strand who writes the Jillian Hillcrest Mystery Series. So come back and meet this talented author!

I may be making some changes to my segment by moving the AUTHOR OF THE WEEK to Saturday since I want to participate in the SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY and I want to be able to focus all of my attention and dedicate the blog entirely to my authors on their big day!

~THIS FRIDAY~

Well, as you know, every Friday, I write about a topic of interest and hope you walk away with something of value. This week’s topic is WITCHES!

LET’S TALK ABOUT WITCHES! We will delve into the history of the witch, talk about the Salem Witch Trials, explore the mystery of Wicca and find out a lot of other cool stuff.

I love witches and anything to do with them so this will be a lot of fun!

~COOL ARTICLE~

I found this cool article  from Writer’s Digest called “HOW TO WRITE CONVINCING DIALOGUE “http://www.writersdigest.com/uncategorized/writing-dialogue-the-5-best-ways-to-make-your-characters-conversations-seem-real?et_mid=538945&rid=3095933

I listen to people carefully as they talk, to me or out in public and I like to think that my character’s dialogue is the strongest thing that I write but I am excited to put some of these tips into place!

~WHAT I AM READING~

I have several books that I am getting ready to bite into, some hardcovers and some on my Kindle PC but I think I am going to start with an older tale, THE ENGLISH PATIENT.

Amazon describes it as:

“With unsettling beauty and intelligence, Michael Ondaatje’s Booker Prize-winning novel traces the intersection of four damaged lives in an abandoned Italian villa at the end of World War II.The nurse Hana, exhausted by death, obsessively tends to her last surviving patient. Caravaggio, the thief, tries to reimagine who he is, now that his hands are hopelessly maimed. The Indian sapper Kip searches for hidden bombs in a landscape where nothing is safe but himself. And at the center of his labyrinth lies the English patient, nameless and hideously burned, a man who is both a riddle and a provocation to his companions—and whose memories of suffering, rescue, and betrayal illuminate this book like flashes of heat lightning.”

Meet author PIERRE GILSON~Author of the Week! Author of WORLD WITHOUT A HOME!

Hi everyone!

Hope you are having a great Sunday! We went out to a dance last night and had a blast! More on that later!

We also got more snow yesterday! It was the weirdest thing. The sun was out in the morning and I thought it would be a pretty nice day, then suddenly I looked outside and saw a blizzard! It was crazy! Then the sun came out but while we were the dance, it snowed even more and the roads were very icy. We made it home okay though but that was kinda freaky.

Today it is very cold and windy and it really feels like winter out there! Yikes!

Well, it’s Sunday and you know what that means…AUTHOR OF THE WEEK! Today I am hosting Pierre Gilson who is a very talented artist and author. I hope you enjoy meeting him!

There is still time to get your answers in for my monthly contest to WIN a FREE book of mine, your choice. Deadline is February 14th!

Still looking for authors, publishers, literary agents, editors…anyone who is in the writing biz and would like to be a guest on my blog.

Next Friday’s topic…LET’S TALK ABOUT WITCHES!

Sympathies go out to the family and friends of Whitney Houston who passed away on Saturday, February 11, at age 48.

Well, I hope you have a great week and thanks for stopping by to say hello! 🙂

~AUTHOR OF THE WEEK~

Today I want to introduce you to a handsome and talented author and artist PIERRE GILSON!

Pierre is known as a “Writer of Epics” and is the author of WORLD WITHOUT A HOME, a gritty portrayal of a war torn nation and how the fate of that nation lies on the shoulders of one man, Ares Strife, to bring peace into an unsettled world.

He describes Ares as, “One of the main protagonists, unsure of himself at times but has confidence willing to help him make that change into something better than what he is now. His growth in the story will be noticed during every step that he takes in the Military and in all of Alpine and throughout the other lands of Gaia.”

When describing himself, he says, “I am a writer who likes to think of myself as an “Epic Novelist.” I am currently twenty years of age and of Haitian-African descent. Born in the great city of Dover, Delaware; residing in Phenix City, Alabama. During my years I have writen a variety of things such as poems, songs, and stories. Currently in college, I have been called truly gifted by my instructors. The only goal I have is to have people look at my work and see what I have seen all my life, a success. “

He is tudying creative writing at Chattahoochee Valley University and is fluent in English, Haitian Creole and French.

Some Fun Facts about WWOAH : This whole story and it’s entirety started as a poem in a College library.

Lone Sharks-Submariners that do all aquatic based missions. Such as infiltrate an enemy ships, find and locate lost material, and plant devices on submarines. They are required to hold their breath beyond the limit while under sea levels. A special pressure resistant suit is given to ease the pain on the body.

Although the book is about war, Pierre adds, “I didn’t put a lot of romance in Vol.1, it was more directed to the men through action but in the next volume, I’m sure to make the women very happy.”

WORLD WITHOUT A HOME is Volume 1 of a series and Pierre says, “It’s the beginning of The Epic!”

“In the war-infested world of Gaia; Few soldiers stood above their peers only to achieve what others could not…to be free.

On Gaia there is nothing but disagreements that lead to squabbles and eventually leads to all out wars. During an era of a somewhat instilled peace soldiers are called to deploy immediately by the Branch: Director. When this was ordered the events that spiraled after could only be stopped by a few soldiers. These heroes will bring a sense of stability to every corner of the world. But one who stands above all, the one who will bring among a limited peace, Ares Strife “The Peace Bringer.” Unlike ordinary soldiers, this particular one has the spirits of unsung warriors burning inside of him. The only question is “How will this peace be brought unto the world.”

Check out this awesome artwork! What a talented young man he is!

CALL OUT FOR AUTHORS/PUBLISHERS/EDITORS/AGENTS plus NEW BLOG DESIGN plus COOL ARTICLE!

Good morning everyone!

I hope you had a nice weekend and are looking forward to the week ahead. Why am I so cheerful this early in the morning? Why not? We are not in control of a lot of things but we are in control of our attitude and how we look at things and treat other people. So, good morning Sunshine! 🙂

I wanted to introduce you to my new blog design. I have looked for days for the right header and background and spent hours working on it and I finally mixed two things together that I liked and here it is!

I am not a dark, goth person, which is cool too, but more of a gold, rust, and brown type of girl. I love the Autumn colors and of course I had to throw in a vampire beauty! I hope you like it!

Hope you have a great day and thanks for stopping by to say hello! 🙂

AUTHOR OF THE WEEK

I also hope you liked my first segment of AUTHOR OF THE WEEK where I hosted author Christine Cunningham yesterday. I wanted to make her photo larger but for some reason, I was unable to do that.  😦

Next week I will host another talented young writer, PIERRE GILSON.  He writes edgy, realistic types of stories and is also a very talented artist. He will be here on February 12th!

I am still looking for authors/ writers/editors/publishers/agents, anyone in the field who would be interested in doing a guest blog or interview.  I would like to start featuring a segment from publishers, agents and editors giving advice for writers.

So please let me know and I can get you hooked up right away!

Speaking of guest blogs and blog tours, I found this neat article from Writer’s Digest which talks about “10 Tips on Guest Blogging and Blog Tours”…check it out…http://www.writersdigest.com/editor-blogs/guide-to-literary-agents/10-tips-on-guest-blogging-and-blog-tours?et_mid=533431&rid=3095933

This is a really cool video my friend Judy sent me the other day. It actually mad me cry but then again, I am a sappy Pisces and I cry at a lot of stuff but check it out..it is about the power of our words and how they can change our world…http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=Hzgzim5m7oU&vq=medium

On a personal note…my favorite song of all time is ‘THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKING” by the legendary Nancy Sinatra…well I got a notice this morning that she is now following me on Twitter! Yippee! I really love her and that song will always be my fav! Thanks Nancy! 🙂

MEET AUTHOR CHRISTINE CUNNINGHAM!!! Author of the Week!

Hi everyone!

Well, a few days ago it was 70 degrees here in Maryland and last night we got snow! Not a whole lot but enough to make it cold and wet! It’s snowing out there again today but at least it is not as cold and hopefully Spring will be here soon!

Today I am starting my AUTHOR OF THE WEEK segment where I will be introducing you to a new author every week. All different genres are included and I think you will enjoy the fun mix of writers and authors I have put together. I got a great response and I look forward to you meeting some new people on the scene.

Have a great day and we’ll talk again soon! 🙂

AUTHOR OF THE WEEK

CHRISTINE CUNNINGHAM

Author Christine Cunningham

Christine is the author of ETERNAL BEGINNING, THIRTY-DAY GUIDE TO APPLY ETERNAL BEGINNING and FIRST SNOW

ETERNAL BEGINNING

Are you questioning your life’s path?  What are those pesky emotions for anyway? Each moment holds the chance to change whether or not we see the way. Find your guide to a sparkling life!

Review for ETERNAL BEGINNING

“Eternal Beginning is an uplifting, spiritual tale of one woman’s search for meaning in her life. While trying to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this woman finds herself confronted by what can only be described as her “guardian angel” who offers her advice on live, love, peace, and contentment. I found Eternal Beginning both refreshing and uplifting as it shed light on an otherwise dark day. This is an ideal read for anyone who feels the stress and frustration of everyday life. I read Eternal Beginning in one sitting and felt inspired at the end.”

THIRTY-DAY GUIDE TO APPLY ETERNAL BEGINNING

This book is designed to take you through a thirty-day guide to apply the lessons within the book, Eternal Beginning. Each day is divided by a quote from Eternal Beginning, the lesson to apply, a paragraph to motivate, and finally, an action step that will cement the lesson in place.

FIRST SNOW

Review for FIRST SNOW

“This is a sweet, fast-paced romance (read it in one night) that is set in a quaint, small town during Christmas. Family is a strong theme throughout the story. If you are looking for a shorter romance (about a 16k word novella) to help you get into the Christmas spirit, look no further! “

Christine decribes herself as someone who “writes fictional stories to uplift and inspire. I am a life-long student of happiness and how to attract it. I compile what I learn and weave it into an understandable and enjoyable story.”

I sat down with Christine and asked her what she felt was the secret to a happy and fulfilling life. That’s a heavy duty question but her answer was very inspiring and profound.  I loved her answer and I think you will too! 🙂

What is the secret to a happy and fulfilling life?

Choice. At first blush that may seem simplistic or even untrue. Bear with me and I’ll explain. I live by the philosophy that I attract everything that happens in my life. This means a few things to me:

1. I have control.
2. Everything that happens to me is good because it’s communication on my direction in life.
3. I can change in an instant.

This doesn’t mean I live in a cloud of eternal bliss sitting in the yoga lotus position all day. In fact, there are a few things that I have invited by choosing to attract by default that were downright unpleasant. After realizing what I was doing I could change the direction of my thoughts and then slip back into the vibe I prefer. How does that happen? Let me share my process.

1. I make it easy to be happy!
a. Listen to comedians
b. Take delight in small things like stickers or green lights during your commute.
c. Listen to uplifting music.
d. Surround yourself with happy people. If you are unable to choose who is around you physically then mentally surround yourself with positive people.

2. I mentally ask to feel a little better.
a. This means going from depressed to angry to frustrated to annoyed and so on. Each step makes me feel more in control and positive.

3. I review what mental question I was asking that allowed my mood to fall.
a. Why am I so stupid?
b. Why don’t I ever get what I want?

4. Then I begin to ask a better question.
a. What am I/can I learn from this situation?
b. How can I immediately benefit from this situation?
c. What evidence am I choosing to see or ignore and how is that affecting my outlook?

5. I take immediate action in a positive direction.
When the conscious choice is made to be happy and fulfilled, despite circumstances, the vivid splendor of life reveals its secret.

Wow, I think we can all learn a lot from this wise and talented young lady! I hope you get a chance to check out Christine’s books and visit her on her blog and stop by to say hello on FaceBook!

I highly recommend her!!!

Thank you Christine for stopping by today and CONGRATULATIONS on being AUTHOR OF THE WEEK!!! 🙂

MY NEW INTERVIEW!!! plus TIPS ON SELLING YOUR FICTION ARTICLE!!!

Happy Friday everyone!

That sounds a lot better than Happy Monday doesn’t it? 🙂

Well, we had a 70 degree day here in Maryland the other day and it was just enough to tease me and make me want summer even more! But it was nice to be out and about and not have to worry about putting on layers of coats! I even washed my hair on the back porch with the garden hose! Yes, yes, I guess I am a country girl at heart!

Hope you all enjoy your week and thanks for stopping by to say hello! 🙂

~RECENT HAPPENINGS~

I was recently interviewed by Lori Moore, the author of  From Zero to Christian in Just 35 Years, Missing Andy:  The Journey From Grief to Joy and Grady the Gray Cat.

It was a lot of fun and Lori is a really nice girl with some awesome books to read. In fact, Lori will be featured here on my blog in the next few weeks as an Author of the Week!

Here is my interview:

 http://www.loriamooreonline.com/blog/2012/02/02/An-Interview-with-Author-Lisa-V-Proulx.aspx

Also, look for me on April 2 when I will be the Author of the Week on Full Moon Bites! More on that later…

~AUTHOR OF THE WEEK~

Currently I have February and March filled but looking for spots for April! It is fun and painless and all you have to do is answer some interview questions of if you’d prefer, write a guest blog. If you are interested and I hope you are, please contact me at any of the sites below.

This Sunday I will be hosting author Christine Cunningham…so be sure to stop by and meet this talented author…

NEW BLOG DESIGN COMING SOON!!!

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately and decided to jazz up my blog a bit! I love the pink and the stars but want something else to really make my site pop!

I found some cool ideas and I am now in the process of learning more about the tech side of things. But look for a new design in the next few days. I think you will like the one I picked out!

~WHAT I AM WORKING ON~

I am getting ready to work on my next book. It starts off in 1800’s London and is about a child who is abducted from her family by her father’s stable hand. He is obsessed with the young girl and his twisted love for the child plunges her into a dark underworld that holds no escape for her.

Can you guess what’s coming next? If you know my books, you will know..

I am still in search of a title which is strange because that is usually the first thing that pops into my head when I think about writing another story.

~WHAT I AM READING~

I love to read and would love to have more time for it but I squeeze it in where I can. I feel that in order to be a good writer, a person must enjoy reading.

But the book that I am reading now is by Anne Rice who says (many times) in the book that she was never a very good reader. So, I guess there is hope for those of you out there who follow in her footsteps.

Her book, “CALLED OUT OF DARKNESS~A Spiritual Confession”, is her journey from growing up a good and obedient Catholic girl, to becoming an atheist, then at 57 years old, coming back to her faith.

It is a haunting memoir of her life growing up in New Orleans and how life can sometimes change your perception of what is faith and what if one day everything you believe in goes away.

~COOL ARTICLES~

Came across this cool article in Writer’s Digest that I thought you might enjoy. It’s called “Tips to Make Selling Yor Fiction a Reality!”

SO YOU WANT TO WRITE A BOOK? FREE KINDLE eBOOK!

Hi everyone!

Hope you are enjoying your Sunday. It’s nice and sunny here in Maryland but the cold wind is blowing and I am freezing as usual!

I am not a phone person in any way shape or form! I have a cheap old cell phone because I am not really into techno stuff. You know the phone I am talking about, you get it cheap at Wal-Mart and add minutes to it?

Well, this morning I was in the middle of a very important call and I heard the familiar three little beeps…yep…the phone goes out, the minutes are gone and I feel like a total loser!

She emailed me about it and added “lol” but I wasn’t laughing. I was so embarrassed!!!

Anyhoo, I came across a FREE Kindle eBook today that I wanted to share with you. It’s called, “So You Want to Write a Book?” I did not write it nor have I read it but I did download it from Amazon and I am going to take a look at it.

The reviews say it’s very helpful and offers a lot of good writing/publishing/marketing advice.

Check it out! www.amazon.com/You-Want-Write-Book-ebook/dp/B004CRTE8Q/

~BOOK TRAILER NEWS~

Well, I have been looking into book trailers and I think they are pretty neat and I want to do one. So, I am working on one now for my vampire novel PUNCTURE. I have photos of what I imagine the characters to look like and man, they are so close, it is so neat to see my characters come to life.

PUNCTURE the "revamped" version of the original vampire novel that was first released in 2004!!!

I am putting it together and adding some finishing touches and it will be ready to publish very, very soon!

I am learning so much! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? I am a rock~n~roll 70’s chick who didn’t even know what a blog was until recently now I am making movies! 🙂

~AUTHOR INTERVIEWS/GUEST BLOG~

Still looking for authors to interview for my March blog issue. Guest blogging is cool too if you are more comfortable doing that. February is already filled and March is filling up fast so come on! Drop me a line and let’s both get some exposure and publicity!

My first guest blog will be on February 5 and I will be hosting Christine Cunningham, author of the beautiful and inspirational book, “Eternal Beginnings”
